§ 1 Name, registered location and activities
The association bears the name "European Institute for the furtherance of Democracy" and presents itself under the acronym "EID".
(1) The association is registered in Vienna and its activities range from throughout Austria to all Member States of the European Union as well as all other nations and regions of the European Continent.
(2) The association's activities can be performed by businesses or special partnerships that are not branches of the association. The formation of association branches is not planned.
§ 2 Purpose 
The association, which acts as a non-profit organisation, understands itself as a channel for bundling and uniting interested actors who wish to contribute to the establishment and furthering of an open civil society and democratic discourse throughout Europe. "EID" takes on the role of a link between the core of Europe and Central, South-eastern and Eastern Europe.
The goal of the association is to integrate Austria more strongly into the core of Europe and forge ties through Austria between the core European founder countries of the European Union and the other countries of Central Europe as well as South-eastern and Eastern Europe to facilitate the unification of Europe.
In pursuit of this goal, "EID" intends to hold colloquiums, seminars, conferences, symposia, congresses, courses, summer schools and weekend courses on all topics that involve the currently existing international European contracts whether from the European Commission or the Council of the European Union or other European bodies.
"EID" also aims to act as a project sponsor of informational and communications projects relating to the contents of the above-mentioned European contracts, their policies and political goals in order to play the role of a mediator between the core European states and the countries of Central, South-eastern and Eastern Europe.
"EID" seeks to produce all kinds of publications falling within the framework of the goals described above and to disseminate to promote a democratically established, open civil society in Europe.
§ 3 Activities for Realising the Association's Purpose
(1) The association's purpose should be realised through the activities listed in paragraph 2.
(2) The ideal means are:
a)Organisation of encounter trips, lecture visits and invitations, excursions and study trips to establish and maintain contacts. The creation of networks with similar organisations and interested individuals within the core of Europe as well as in the states of Central, South-eastern and Eastern Europe.
b)The holding of colloquiums, seminars, conferences, symposia, congresses, courses, summer schools and weekend courses in accordance with §2.
c)Actively pursuing invitations to tender of public bodies of the European Union and participation in the pertinent tender processes in accordance with §2.
d)Offering pertinent information in accordance with §2 via all types of media.
(3) The required material funds should be obtained through:
a) Member contributions.
b)Donations by members.
c)Cooperation with and support of project partners (e.g. other NGOs, institutes, etc.) from the region specified in §§1&2 and the bodies of the European Union.
d)Cost participation in projects by interested providers.
e)Advertisements in the institute's own publications, proceeds from the sale of the institute's publications.
f)The institute's own activities.
g)Participation in project invitations to tender.
§ 4 Types of membership 
(1) The members of the institute are ranked as full, supporting, honorary and corresponding members.
(2) Full members are those who participate fully in the work of the institute.
(3) Supporting members are those who may not be capable of participating
fully in the work of the institute but who support the institute's activities through payment of a significantly elevated membership contribution.
(4) Honorary members are individuals who have rendered special services in the institute's area of activity or for the institute.
(5) Corresponding members are individuals who support the institute's activities through general cooperation and, in particular, reports in or about a specific state (country, region, district).
§ 5 Becoming a member 
(1) All physical persons who commit to the goals of the institute and wish to actively support the work of "EID" as defined by the institute's declared purpose may become full members.
Supporting members may be physical persons or legal entities.
(2) The president and at least two additional members of the executive board shall decide together on the acceptance of full and supporting members. For the acceptance of full members, this decision is considered final. In the case of supporting members, the decision of the executive board requires approval in the general member assembly to take into consideration the special role of supporting members as (a maximum of four in each case) co-opted members of the executive board and their associated function as auditor.
The acceptance of corresponding members, see §4 paragraph 1, is decided upon by the president according to the respective situation, but he must inform the executive board of his decision, which can be vetoed by this body under special circumstances (§6 paragraph 4).
The acceptance may be refused without specification of reasons.
(3) An appointment as an honorary member takes place based on a justified application by the executive board to the general member assembly.
